Want to improve the chances of receiving views and comments on your posts?

Use automatic filtering apps on your mobile device.

A recent study by Georgia Tech and Yahoo Labs analyzed images shared on Flicker, more than half of which were cross-posted on Instagram. According to the data, photos with filters are 21% more likely to be viewed and 45% more likely to get a comment than unfiltered images.

What garnered the best results?

  • Images with warmer temperatures, increased contrast, and higher exposure improves chances of receiving both views and comments.
  • Images with faces receive the most likes and comments

Increase Your Social Media Results

The studies found that “photographically” speaking, filters which auto-enhance a photo drive more engagement.  Filters that transform or exaggerate the image or cause the image to lose highlight details result in lower engagement.  However, filters that cause an “antique” look (sepia) are an exception to the rule.
